Reviews: Laura (USA: TN) (2008/09/28):
I picked this book up at a used book store because I loved Robert Penn Warren's All the King's Men so very much. I loved Warren's themes and writing style and use of imagery. I think I like him so much because he's so absolutely verbose, the way I imagine I would end up writing novels (if I could write novels). The book took me forever to read, and I was quite thankful when I did finish it, but it didn't disappoint me.

I found what I was looking for: Wordy Warren and a portrait of man struggling with his own piece in history.
The title page told me the book is "a Romantic novel," but the romance (which is hardly very Romantic) is not the compelling component of the book. Instead the large character of Jeremiah and his dilemma instead drive the story.
