ssk (Australia) (2010/02/09): From the back cover... "Hannah doesn't want to attend the family Passover dinner. She's tired of hearing her relatives' stories about the Holocaust. But of course, she has to go.During the Passover Seder, as she opens the door to symbolically welcome the prophet Elijah, she is swept back in time to 1942, to a Polish village where everyone calls her Chaya. Then something terrible happens: Nazi soldiers come to take the villagers away...and she knows what lies ahead." ----------------- I mooched this book for my 13yr old, and thought I should check it first. Lucky I did: it's an *excellent* way for kids to learn more about the Holocaust, and the evil which was done during WW2. But I think it's so gruesome and detailed, it's probably more suited to a 15-16yr old. It really is that disturbing. However, as I said, I consider it an extremely important book for young people and will certainly make sure that each of my kids reads it. But do read it first, to decide for yourself whether it's suitable for your own.
