Status message:
I am changing my status to "on vacation" until I can clear up our extensive backlog of requests. In order to manage our account, however, I will have to occasionally log in. At those points in time, our account will be shown as "active/available." Please do not mooch from me at this point in time, unless you are willing to wait a month or longer for mailing, while I take care of all our book requests in chronological order.

Hello everyone,

If you would like to ship many books to one person and get BookMooch points in return, I am now ready to accept books in bulk.

I am offering 1/10 point per book shipped, plus one whole point for every book with a resale value of 3.99 or over. I will pay the .10 point acquisition cost on receipt, rounding to the nearest whole point. I will pay the whole points by smooch as the books are processed and listed for sale. If a book has a resale value of under 3.99, is in reasonably good condition and in reasonably high demand, I will list it for mooching here on BookMooch. I can promise that nothing will be sent to a landfill; anything that can't find a new home will be recycled. Nonrecyclable covers of hardcovers will be composted.

Currently I have 175 points to spend on this project, which of course limits the number of bulk books I can accept to a maximum of 1750, until I have more books mooched out of my inventory and earn more points.

I did first email John Buckman about this undertaking, and he has given his wholehearted blessing. Recently he had to turn away a donor with 50,000 books in LA, so we are aware that there is a need for this type of service.

Please contact me by email for my mailing address.
This same notice was posted to the forum January 18, 2009.

Sincerely,
Emily Thayer

Who am I?
Mom to four young readers. Internet bookseller since 2000. Booklover since the day I was born.

Almost all my books are USED, and some of them are ex-library. I try to include condition notes, but if you don't see any, expect the book to have some wear and tear.
To the severely allergic: We have one cat and one dog. No one here smokes, but my books do come from all sorts of sources. I only mark items as "accepted" once I have the book in hand. "Sent" means I have printed out the postage for your book.

FAQs I get:
Q: Where did you get all those books? Your inventory is the largest that I've seen since I've joined not too long ago.
Do you have any tips on finding books worth swapping? I've tried some yard sales, but all of the books were in terrible condition.
Thanks

A: I'm a book dealer. When I started out, I did check places like yard sales, but I've sort of grown out of that, in terms of the quantities I deal with. Try library book sales and join Freecycle.com. Don't make too many judgements on books before you try to swap them. People have all sorts of ideas about what is swappable and what's not... be honest about the condition, edition, etc., and you'll have plenty of moochers in no time.
