Status message: I currently live in Japan, but I will gladly send my books overseas. When sending overseas, I usually use Japan's SAL (Surface Air Lifted) service (http://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/question/9_en.html), so it may take about two weeks for the books to get to moochers, but it could take longer. When a package is quite heavy, I ship by surface.
For mooches from within Japan, I normally use You-Mail (http://www.post.japanpost.jp/service/you_mail/index.html), which is the cheapest way to send books within Japan. With this method I can't bundle books heavily with padding, but Japan's postal service (especially the domestic service) is generally careful and reliable and I personally have never received a damaged book sent by You-Mail.
I live in a non-smoking, pet-free home, but since my books come from all kinds of places (used bookstores, library book sales, etc.), this may not be a 100% safety guarantee for those with allergy problems. But I try to describe the condition of the books in my inventory meticulously; I certainly do when the book is in less-than-good condition. If you have any questions about the condition of my books, please feel free to email me.
Bio: My past: "Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?"
--Henry Ward Beecher
My future: "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."
--Jorge Luis Borges
My present: "People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading."
--Logan Pearsall Smith
When I moved to my current residence I had to literally throw away a good many books I would never read again because the Japanese used bookstores in my area don't take foreign-language books. Only a few months later did I discover BookMooch. Aaarrrggghhh! Now I am determined not to make the same mistake again! |
